Lifting an arm while lying down—palms open to the sky, fingers relaxed, wrist slightly bent. Maybe you’ve done it yourself without thinking, stretching into that perfect, effortless posture that just feels right. Or maybe you’ve noticed babies and children doing it in their sleep, their tiny hands reaching upward as if in a salute. Instinctively, we all seem to know: this is how the body can recharge—interesting yeah.
It doesn’t have to be exact. It’s not done for long periods (seconds a minute or a few.) Your palm might face fully upward, or your fingers might curl gently—energy doesn’t have to be perfect. What matters is the intention put into the gesture, the way your body, without conscious instruction, aligns itself to receive.
This isn’t just personal wisdom—it’s cellular memory. Our ancestors slept under the skies, their bodies naturally arranging to receive energetic currents. The posture remembers what the mind forgets.
The Right Arm: Solar Currents & Active Manifestation
When the right arm lifts, it’s like tuning into a frequency of action. In many traditions, the right side carries solar energy—the Pingala channel in yogic systems, the masculine Yang in Taoism, the path of outward expression. Raising this arm isn’t just a stretch; it’s an unconscious prayer for ‘forward’ motion. You might feel a subtle sensation along the skin, a warmth in the palm, or even a grounding pull down the leg (usually the right. Notice how bending the wrist sends energy traveling). That’s your body’s way of saying: “I’m ready. Let’s go.”
This is why shamans often raise their right arm in invocation—calling down power to manifest. There’s a reason athletes, artists, and even children naturally reach this way when they’re flowing with creative energy. The body knows. For myself, I do it to relax—the grounding.
Side-lying grounding: Raising the arm from the side creates a sacred circuit—energy flows down the arm, into the torso, and roots through the hips. It’s a shamanic “lightning rod” posture. I had been doing this for years— no clue that’s what it was. Whenever I’m restless, I raise my hand in a lying position from my side. You don’t have to be into yoga or a shaman to tune your senses into this ‘power.’
The Left Arm: Lunar Wisdom & Deep Receiving
But then… there’s the left arm—softer, more intuitive. This is the Ida Nadi, the Yin flow, the side of dreams and deep knowing. When this arm rises, it’s an act of surrender. You’re not pushing energy out; you’re letting it in. The left side is where we receive visions, where ancestors whisper, where the quietest truths settle. When I do this, I feel supercharged—of course, I’m sensing, feeling, and taking notice of the shifts and energies.
Left-arm supercharging: The “shifts” you feel are your psychic receptors activating. The left side doesn’t just receive—it translates subtle energy into bodily sensation.
Notice how raising the left hand feels gives a cool sensation. That’s lunar energy— “running’, mirror-like, healing. Bend the wrist here, and the energy might pool in the belly or current along the ribs. It’s no coincidence that empaths and psychics often favor this side when resting; it’s a direct line to the subconscious. It’s easy to sense—just allow yourself to feel and know.
A very long sidenote: While many energy workers prefer lying on their right side (left arm raised) for receiving energy— this is me I favor, ‘lying’ on the left, this isn’t a strict rule. Some empaths find better results on their left side (right arm raised) when they need to ground chaotic energies. Try both. Your body will show you its natural flow – the key is noticing which position makes your breath deepen on its own, or which side makes your intuition suddenly clear like tuning a radio. Ummm. just in case there’s those that misinterprets my writings, I’m not saying … leave yo hand up all night haha. —stretch, it’s like a stretch.
Why We Do It Naturally (And Why Babies Know Best)
Watch a sleeping keiki (child). See how their arms drift up, palms open like tiny satellite dishes. My eldest son did this all the time. As a young mother and reader I just panned it out to be past life— I should’ve known better because I remember doing this from childhood. I now know exactly what he was doing. Kids haven’t been taught this—they’re simply listening to the body’s wisdom. We’re all born knowing how to regulate our energy, how to call in what we lack and release what we don’t need. But over time, we forget. We override the signals—socialized.
Modern day living trains us to ignore these gestures as unimportant, but they’re ancient spiritual tech shht—like a forgotten prayer.
These simple gestures are so powerful. When you allow yourself to ‘stretch’ this way—without forcing it, without overthinking—you’re remembering, beautiful. You’re realigning with the instinct that says: “You need a download. You need a boost. Do this.”
Can’t feel anything? No worries, don’t stop. Just know it’s working, and it will. Your faith will grow when intuition gets stronger.
Quick note: It’s not a literal stretch—this is purely energetic. But since we’re working with the body, movement language is the closest way to describe it.
The Dual-Handed Triangle: A Conduit of Amplified Power
About a year ago, I discovered raising both hands overhead—fingertips of one hand resting gently behind the other, forming a living triangle—supercharges my rituals.
(I just learned some call it the, “living triangles”)
This posture works because it creates a sacred geometry circuit: the triangle acts as an antenna (reception) while the doubled arms form a lightning rod (channeling). The top vertex pulls energy from cosmic sources, while the base (your shoulders) grounds it through your torso. Who would’ve known I’d learn a thing or two from making orgonite pyramids.
It aligns with:
- Egyptian traditions (the pyramid as power concentrator)
- Hindu mudras (like Anjali but elevated)
- Hermetic principles (“As above, so below” made physical)
- Shamanic posture (the body becoming a world tree)
I’m pretty sure I was an alchemist in a past life and definitely a Shaman (or whatever the term then) in many life times. Anyhoo,. The fingertip connection maintains the circuit—too much pressure closes it, too little breaks it.—that kinda felt like a “wax on wax off moment with Miyagi lol.” Like all of the power postures, it’s about practicing the mastery of it. It’s not hard. I know I sound like a broken record but, just tune in to how it ‘feels.’
Becoming More Aware (And Why It Strengthens Your Gifts)
Every time you notice yourself in this pose, pause. Breathe into it. Feel where the energy gathers—in the palm, the wrist, the opposite knee. That awareness is the first step to deepening your intuition. The more you honor these subtle cues, the more your spiritual senses sharpen.
You already know how to care for your energy. You’ve just been taught to dismiss it as “just a stretch.” Plus, doing yoga and Pilates nowadays is more of just a gym-thing kinda vibe. But now—now we see the magick in it. The next time your arm rises on its own, smile. This does two things: reinforces the subconscious to encourage the flow and strengthens intuition by recognition alone. Your body is speaking in light, in flow and the soul is saying: “Here. Take what you need from the universe.”—It’s wonderful!
The Waking Hours
There’s magick in the “in-between” spaces—that state between waking and sleep—when you do this. That’s when the veil thins— your raised hand is now, both physical limb and etheric antenna. Notice how the energy feels different at 3am versus afternoon. The body becomes something else entirely in these moments.
I do this without questioning now. I just raise my arm. Before, I’d hesitate< I was scared—I realize now I was probably sensing power but didn’t understand it yet.
You don’t have to be a shaman, a yogi, or a super spiritual sensei. It’s your body, and our divine right to access what we need.
Try this: As you raise your arm, whisper ‘receive’ (left) or ‘radiate’ (right). No need to believe it—just try it. The body understands simple truths better than complicated crap. Within a short time, you’ll start catching yourself doing it automatically when stressed or inspired. I unconsciously do it when tense. I don’t notice it until I feel the tightness— I don’t work out hahaha! Don’t you damn judge me! That’s when you’ll know—you’ve woken up that instinct though— because it’s on autopilot.
If anything, just leave your hand up until the universe ‘calls’ on you. 😆
